he Archclericy of Veluna is the realm within
the World of Greyhawk assigned to the State of Ohio for the Living Greyhawk campaign by the RPGA. So if you live in Ohio
and want to join the Living Greyhawk campaign, your character will typically begin play in the region of Veluna.
(See the Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook on the downloads page for details.) By
the same token, many of the adventures you can play in Ohio take place in the Archclericy of Veluna. For an explanation
of what Living Greyhawk modules can be played within the boundaries of Ohio, see our
how to run modules page. In the Veluna Gazetteer, gamers like
you have accumulated a vast wealth of information about the nation of Veluna. This page does nothing more than scratch
the surface of the riches to be found there.
The devout realm of Veluna is a relatively young nation forged in the fires of war from the scrap of old empires during the last three centuries. Modern Veluna is a great and peaceful nation at the rich heart of the Flanaess guided by Rao, god of Serenity and Reason. However, this serene country is not completely divorced from the violence and despair that engulfs so many of it's neighbors. Indeed, recent events have shattered the serenity of the Archclericy. Our very peacefulness has drawn to us some of the vilest of powers in this mystical world. The unwritten chapters of our story will be tales of great heroism in the face of seemingly inevitable destruction. Whether those tales end in tragedy or victory is up to you. Come help us write Velondi history!
The most popular religions in Veluna by far is Rao. In Falsridge there are those fighting spirits who follow St. Cuthbert and Heironeous. Travelers and merchants find temples to Fharlanghn here as well to aid them in their journeys. Unlike other countries though, Veluna is very tolerant of other religions and some have very strong followings in Veluna. The one thing you will not find though is any religion to a god of evil or a god who condones acts of evil or indifference. The background on religion is in the inhabitants section under religion. For more details, see the discussion of religion in our Gazetteer. The diverse peoples of the rest of the Flanaess have many, many gods as described in the Living Greyhawk deities list.
Veluna is a Archdiocese rich with minor secular nobles and titled positions. Your character may begin the game with some ties to nobility if you wish. However, your character cannot begin with a title, and cannot gain any in-game benefits from noble connections.
Veluna is mainly human, though there are also a number of elves, gnomes, and halflings living here, most with ties to Asnath Corpse, the Dapple Wood, and the Iron Woods. There are small enclaves of gnomes in Lorrish, while Devarnish and Valkurl host most of the few dwarves in Veluna. Dwarves are rare in central Veluna, but enclaves live in the mountains and hills around our boarder. Half-orcs are very rare in Veluna. Half-orc PCs will face some prejudices from Velunans, both from ordinary people and from the establishment. Most of the human races are accepted in the Vale but the scattered Baklunish, the Olman, and the river's Rhennee are often stereotyped with negative preconceptions by the more populous Oeridians, Flan, and Suloise. More information on Races and Classes is in the Gazetteer.
There are many prestigious special groups called meta-organizations that strive to have a hand in determining Veluna's fate. There are knightly orders, mystical colleges, and many other groups of lesser and greater importance. Characters in Veluna can join meta-orgs during play. Each meta-org has it's own individual entrance requirements, most of which can only be met by characters with a few adventures under their belt. A few of the groups, such as the various Churches, do allow new characters to begin play as members. Each group provides certain advantages to its members and characters are required give time, money, and fidelity to retain their membership.
