Can I play Greyhawk at home?
Sure. The World of Greyhawk is the default setting for the 3rd Edition D&D game. You are welcome to use any and all information from the Web site for your own home campaigns.

Can I play Living Greyhawk at home and have it count?
Living Greyhawk is a Living Campaign organized by the RPGA. Adventures in Living Campaigns must be ordered from the RPGA and the results must be reported to the RPGA. (See below for how.) Living Greyhawk adventures can be run at home, but we highly encourage you to come to a convention or game day first to get a feel for things. The campaign is the people who play and write it more than it is the written modules.

What Living Greyhawk adventures can I play where?
This is slightly complicated, but it's not that tough. Adventures in LG are variously called adventures, modules, or scenarios; it's all the same. Adventures come in three types and there are restrictions on where in the real world you may play each type. Actually, the Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook (LGCS) covers all this. However, in brief, here are the types.

How can I judge Living Greyhawk games?
This is a question we love to answer. Convention coordinators love to have more judges. Sometimes, conventions give perks to judges, such as reduced-price admission, the chance to play the adventures before the convention in a special session called "Slot-Zero", or other goodies. So, contact the coordinator of the next convention or game day and you're sure to get a warm welcome. Or, you can also host your own game (see below).

You'll also have to pass a quick open-book online quiz called the Herald-Level GM Test from RPGA. Beware! Some people have found mistakes in the answer key. If you hit one, just write it down, restart the test, and regurigate their wrong answer back to them if you encounter that question again. (Just like your History mid-term, right? Yes, it's a little silly, but this test is the rule, as least for now.)

i'm sure I want to host a game. What's the process?
The second time you try this, it'll go pretty smoothly. The first time, it won't. We highly recommend you play a few rounds and judge a few rounds before you try to wade through the adventure ordering system, but you can jump right in if you want to.

Step 1: Gather a group of players and a DM to form a table.
If you can't find a game day close enough to your area, you might ask your local gaming group if they want to play in the Living Greyhawk campaign. Make sure they all join the RPGA. For a table to be sanctioned by the RPGA, it must have 4-6 players + 1 judge. More or fewer can get your table disqualified.

Choose a DM from among the group. This person must pass the Herald-Level GM Test from the RPGA. The bad news for the DM is that you can't play an LG module more than once and you can't play an LG module that you previously judged. The good news is that your gaming group can rotate judging duties with every module if you like, so that everyone has a chance both to play and to judge.

Step 2: Order the Module in Advance
If you do arrange a game, you (the judge) can order a Living Greyhawk scenario through RPGA Member Account Access, but you have to be an RPGA member and have passed the Herald-level test. You must do this a couple of weeks in advance. The order form will ask you these questions:

Step 3: Download the Module PDF
Each module is a PDF file you can print out with Adobe Acrobat. For Core modules, you will download the PDF from the RPGA ordering site. For regional and meta-regional events, you will need to contact the Triad Point of Contact for the PDF, password, and Adventure Records. (We are considering a web form for this process, but for now, just send email.) Send the POC the confirmation number for your gathering, the date, and the names of the modules you need.

Step 4: Play the Game.
In general, the GM should run the event close to how it is written. Certain "fudging" to enhance the enjoyment of the module is all right, but the judge shouldn't make the module substantially harder or easier, and has no authority to adjust XP or rewards. Collect the names and RPGA numbers of the judge and players for reporting.

Voting -- In times past, the players rated the module, rated the judge, and voted among themselves for best player. This practice is now deprecated, more's the pity.

Step 5: Report Results
After the game, the judge must report all your RPGA numbers to Member Account Access. For a full explanation of how this process works, consult the Living Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook (LGCS) and the RPGA Member Account Access area.

Step 6: Repeat until satisfied.
At the end of the adventure, the judge will hand out Adventure Records stating what rewards the characters received from playing the adventure. The LGCS explains how to use the Adventure Record and the Player's Handbook to advance and equip your character.

Every character in the Living Greyhawk campaign can undertake a limited number of tasks in one game year. The campaign year runs from January 1st to December 31st. Time Units (TUs) represent the how much your PC can do in a year. At the beginning of each calendar year, your PC receives 52 TUs to spend on adventuring, joining organizations or creating magical items (among other things). When that PC is out of TUs, you cannot play him again until next year. But fear not! The Living Greyhawk campaign does not limit players to just one PC, so just put that character on the shelf until January, create a new one, and game on!

We thought you might have some more. However, whether you realized it or not, you passed out of the beginner-level material a while ago. If your question is specific to Veluna, the answers you're seeking may lie hidden somewhere else on this website. Of course, they can sometimes be quite good at hiding. You may also want to peruse the LG campaign documents on the downloads page.

Again, we can't recommend highly enough joining one of our email groups. If none of those routes satisfies your thirst for knowledge, you can always write us, the Veluna Triad, and we will send you in the right direction.
